DESIGN LANGUAGE
An etched language for unseen beliefs
The Science of Superstition explores why we find patterns, hold on to rituals and connect everyday events to belief. A collection of hand-drawn illustrations brings these ideas into focus through the visual language of scientific and medical diagrams.
Hand-drawn, etching-inspired lines build intricate images of the brain, hands, birds and familiar symbols. Their traditional character sits alongside precise geometric overlays, giving the work a visual tension between inherited beliefs and scientific enquiry.
CONCEPT
Drawing connections between belief and behaviour
Each illustration began by hand, with closely worked lines recalling traditional engravings. Sacred geometry introduces measured circles, pathways and points of connection, lending the compositions a scientific structure as they explore how the mind finds meaning in coincidence.
APPLICATION
From the gallery wall to the printed page
The hand-drawn imagery extends across exhibition graphics, posters and print. Tarot card-style "Get in Touch" cards give the project a smaller keepsake format, pairing symbolic illustrations with fine geometric linework. Blue, orange and violet details connect these pieces to the larger display. The patterns we draw, the meanings we make.
